THE TWO WEEK WAIT: WAITING TO PEE, WAITING FOR A BABY

This is our first month trying to conceive. It’s been very exciting (making babies!!!), but a little frustrating (The Two Week Wait), as well.

I’ve been charting my basal body temperature (BBT), checking my cervical…fluid, and using ovulation tests to check my LH (luteinizing hormone) levels. I started charting my BBT 5 weeks or so before we started trying, just to try to get a baseline of what was normal for me. Unfortunately, I was varying degrees of sick for 2 of those weeks,

BY TONI WESCHLER, MPH

If you are looking for just one book to read about trying to conceive, fertility or infertility…look no further! Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, MPH is the most comprehensive book covering these topics out there, and it’s written in terms that anyone can understand. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not a doctor.  I’m like the opposite of Bones from Star Trek.

THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK:
PEE STICKS & THERMOMETER!

So, you’ve decided it is time to have a baby. Or at least it’s time to try to have a baby. CONGRATULATIONS!! Now we are in the same boat. Welcome to my boat!

I knew that I would want to chart my basal body temperature prior to (and during) trying to conceive, so I needed an accurate thermometer. I also knew that ovulation kits would be helpful, but expensive, so I wanted to find a cheap way to be able to check for my LH surge whenever I dang well pleased.

AMAZON DEALS:
BABY BARGAINS

Amazon has some awesome deals right now! Well, let’s be honest, Amazon always has awesome deals…that’s what makes it so dangerous, haha. But seriously.

If you’re currently childless, but in the market for motherhood in the near future, then you’ve probably wondered whether or not to get a bassinet, or a crib, or both, or neither. I’ve always liked the idea of a bassinet. I’m not sure that co-sleeping will work for us, but I still want the baby to be close to me. Fisher Price makes these Rock ‘n Play Sleepers (which are on sale),

IF I WORRY ABOUT HAVING A BABY
AM I STILL CRAZY?

The other night I was laying in bed with my husband. He was already asleep and happily snoring, but I was amped up on some ill-advised late afternoon coffee, so I was still scrolling through Instagram. I don’t remember how I found the account I was looking at, I think one of the National Parks I follow might have re-posted one of her photos, but I found myself looking at the photos of Jess.Wandering.

“Holy hell, she is fit.”  Was my first thought.

NURSERY ROUND-UP #2
APRIL 3, 2016

Hello there, and welcome to my second Nursery Round-Up post! If you missed the first one, which featured some of my favourite gender-neutral nurseries, you can find it here!

For this Round-Up, I wanted to look at nurseries with an outdoorsy, rustic or woodland vibe. I was surprised, but it was kind of hard to find many well-done rustic nurseries. I don’t know if it is just too new of a trend for there to be very many featured online, or if it is a tricky theme for a nursery,

MY TOP 5 COUPON APPS (AND/OR
BARGAIN-HUNTING APPS)

If you’re like me, you’ve seen all of recent hubbub about EXTREME COUPONING!! and thought to yourself, “Wow, that would be so cool. Maybe I should try that! *thirty seconds later* Nah, it looks like a ton of work. And work is the worst.”

The best I ever did at “extreme” couponing was spending about 4 hours one week printing coupons and doing ad match-ups, which yielded me a savings of about $100 at Kroger. And don’t get me wrong – it felt great! I was incredibly amped with how well I had done.

Have you heard of Ruth Soukup? I hadn’t up until about…8 months ago, but she is the amazing woman who runs Living Well, Spending Less.  I first found Ruth on Amazon, when I saw her bestselling book pop up as recommended reading after I bought The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo.

MY TOP 5 WEBSITES FOR BUYING/SELLING
USED CLOTHES

I don’t know about you, but I am a big fan of shopping. BIG, BIG fan. When my husband and I still lived in West Virginia, we both had pretty high-paying oil & gas jobs, and since our company covered our living expenses….I shopped a LOT. A shameful amount. Between Amazon, Twice (my favourite online used clothing store that has since gone out of business), J.Crew and REI (to say nothing of my subscription boxes) we had at least one box on our doorstep every damn day. It was bad. It’s actually a really good thing that we don’t have that kind of money anymore,
